Platinum is €10,000 gross and Gold is €8,000 gross, each paid in two instalments. The second half of a Platinum award is released only after verification that you have taken at least two exams, and the second half of a Gold award only after at least one exam in the first scholarship semester.

The call for 2027/2028 had not been published on polimi.it when this was checked on 11 September 2026. In the 2026/2027 cycle the scholarship form was open from 15 October 2025 until noon on 15 December 2025, and only students who had applied for admission and paid the application fee between 1 October and 1 December 2025 could take part. Each year's call is issued separately by decree, so treat these dates as the shape of the cycle and not as a promise.

Politecnico di Milano waives the whole tuition fee and adds a gross cash allowance of €10,000 a year on 10 Platinum awards or €8,000 a year on 18 Gold awards, for international students entering the first year of a Master of Science taught in English at Milano Leonardo or Milano Bovisa. Only students who submitted their admission application and paid the application fee during the Early Bird window are eligible at all, which for 2026/2027 meant applying between 1 October and 1 December 2025.

What it does not cover
It does not cover the administrative fee. Recipients still pay approximately €170, and if that fee is not paid by the deadline in the assignation email the scholarship is treated as not accepted. There is no housing, meals, travel or insurance component. The allowance is gross: the call states these scholarships are considered a form of income equivalent to employment income and are subject to the tax regulations in force regarding scholarships.

Why
You cannot decide to go after this award once you have been admitted. The call only considers students who submitted the admission application and paid the application fee during the Early Bird window, so eligibility is fixed months before any result is published. For 2026/2027 that meant applying between 1 October and 1 December 2025, then filing the separate scholarship form by noon on 15 December 2025. On top of that, the Commission will only consider you if you have been admitted, have accepted your positive evaluation outcome, and have provided a valid English language certificate by the published deadlines.

Politecnico di Milano runs the call out of its Area Campus Life, awards are decided by a Commission nominated by Executive Decree of the Head of Campus Life Area whose members include the Vice Rector for International Relations and the Heads of Schools, and the Financial Aid Unit handles acceptance and payment.

The call does not say how the 10 Platinum and 18 Gold awards are distributed across schools or programmes, and it publishes no minimum GPA. It states the Commission will consider parameters such as gender equality, country of origin and the candidates' age, prioritising the youngest in case of equivalence, but it does not say how those weigh against academic record. The official page says only that GPA and academic achievements are of utmost importance.

Can I hold this alongside another scholarship?
No. The call says the Merit Based International Scholarship is incompatible with other scholarships issued by Politecnico di Milano nor by any other public or private Entity, being it Italian or foreign, with exemption for those issued for the participation of students to international mobility programs. If you are awarded an incompatible one, you have ten days from the most recent awarding to email international-scholarships@polimi.it saying which you keep and which you renounce. If you do not, all benefits offered to you are automatically suspended.
Does it last for both years of the master?
It is assigned for one academic year and can be renewed for the following one. To renew a 2026/2027 Platinum award, the sum of your exam grades multiplied by their ECTS must reach at least 1,000 points by 10 August 2027. For Gold, Silver and Bronze the figure is 700 points. Extra ECTS, internships and credits from a separate academic career do not count, even if Politecnico validated them. You must also stay in the same Master programme the scholarship was assigned for.
What is the tuition waiver actually worth?
The maximum tuition and contributions for a Laurea Magistrale student at Politecnico di Milano in 2026/2027 is €3,943.04 a year. That maximum is precisely what an international student in the reserved non-EU category admitted with a first level qualification obtained abroad pays if they hold no scholarship, because the university charges that group the maximum even if they submit the ISEE or ISEEU parificato.
What happens if I withdraw from the programme?
You lose the right to the scholarship and have to return the amount received up to the date of withdrawal. The withdrawal must be promptly notified to the Financial Aid Unit by email. If you accept the scholarship but then do not enrol for the year it was assigned for, you lose it as well.
Can I suspend it?
You can request suspension of the scholarship benefits by email to the Financial Aid Unit, giving your reasons. If granted, the suspension cannot last more than one academic year.
