Politecnico di Milano does not price degrees individually. One all inclusive contribution covers any programme and is scaled by ISEE, the Italian measure of household income and assets, from 157.04 euro at the bottom of the scale to 3,943.04 euro at the top. The figure here is the top, because the university states that an international student in the reserved non EU category, admitted with a first level qualification obtained abroad and holding no scholarship, pays the maximum whatever ISEE says.

About this degree.
A three year Laurea in Milan that trains engineers to design, develop and manage complex systems in which mechanical, electronic, computer and control technologies work together, covering dynamic system modelling, automatic controls, electronics, robotics, mechatronics and Industry 4.0 digital solutions. It suits students drawn to Physical AI, meaning artificial intelligence applied to physical systems, and to the Master of Science in Automation and Control Engineering that follows it.
The Bachelor of Science programme in Automation Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano trains professionals capable of designing, developing and managing complex systems in which mechanical, electronic, computer and control technologies work together to operate machines, plants and processes in an autonomous, efficient and reliable way.
The university's full description
Today, the systems designed by automation engineers are increasingly referred to as examples of Physical AI, meaning artificial intelligence applied to physical systems: technologies capable of perceiving the environment, learning from process behaviour, and acting autonomously and adaptively. This evolution spans robotics, autonomous vehicles, intelligent production systems and digitalised infrastructures, representing the new frontier of automation.
This is a multidisciplinary programme that combines solid scientific foundations with advanced engineering skills, enabling students to understand and model physical systems, use sensors and actuators, and design decision making logic to guide the behaviour of modern processes.
In the first year, students acquire the mathematical, physical and computer science foundations necessary to understand and model engineering systems. The second year introduces the core subjects of automation, including system dynamics, automatic controls, fundamentals of electronics and applied mechanics, together with the basics of industrial automation. The third year consolidates the technical and scientific preparation with courses dedicated to advanced control systems, robotics, mechatronic systems and process automation.
At the end of the programme, students complete a final project, carried out in groups, which allows them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in an integrated manner. The proposed projects cover key areas of automation engineering, such as process control, robotics and industrial equipment, control systems for dynamic and robotic systems, and the design and control of electric drive systems.
