Away from home rate for a student renting privately: 7,419 euro at the first income bracket (ISEE up to 13,443.97 euro), 6,343 euro at the second, 5,028 euro at the third. The 8,248 euro figure is the first bracket total, cash plus the value of the free daily meal. A student living at home gets 1,314 to 2,601 euro in cash and a commuter 2,470 to 3,991 euro. An away from home student housed in a Politecnico residence is paid on a separate scale, 2,229 to 4,620 euro in cash, alongside the room and a free daily meal.

When the next call is expected
Each call stands alone, so a 2025/2026 holder had to reapply for 2026/2027. For 2026/2027 Politecnico issued the base call on 27 May 2026 and the supplement carrying the ceilings and the amounts on 1 July 2026, with the application closing on 21 July for continuing students and 5 August for first years. A student targeting 2027/2028 should watch polimi.it/diritto-allo-studio from late May, since the ceilings arrive only with the supplement.

Lombardy's DSU grant for 2026/2027 pays a student living away from home 5,028 to 7,419 euro in cash, adds a free meal a day and carries exemption from Politecnico tuition and contributions. You have to be under both ceilings, an ISEE of 26,887.93 euro and an ISPE of 58,452.06 euro, and the application goes to Politecnico di Milano rather than to the region, by 12:00 Italian time on 5 August 2026 for a first year student.

What it does not cover
The tuition exemption lasts only while the benefit is held: the call states that on forfeiture the student loses the right to exemption from fees and contributions. The regional tax, stamp duty and insurance premium sit outside the exemption and are paid by the student anyway. A first year holder who does not earn the required credits by 10 August 2027 is not confirmed and loses the second instalment. A PhD student may only compete if not already holding a scholarship or a research grant. The call attaches no such condition to a specialisation student.

Why
Anyone who is not local is registered as a commuter by default, whatever their address in Milan. Only a student classed as pendolare 90+ can ask to be treated as fuori sede, and the request is a separate act: MODULO A plus a signed, registered rental contract in the student's own name covering at least 1 October 2026 to 31 July 2027, sent in one single transmission by 9 October 2026. At the second income bracket that request is the difference between 4,191 euro and 7,172 euro. A contract starting after 1 October 2026 does not qualify, documents sent in a second message are not considered, and a rent well below the local canone concordato values can be read as not genuine and cost the status.

Where you apply, and who runs it
Online, inside your Politecnico di Milano Servizi Online account, at Agevolazioni e Convenzioni > Presentazione domanda benefici Diritto allo Studio. There is no Regione Lombardia portal for this and no paper route: the call says the application is made exclusively through that online form, and the system records the exact time it is sent. The office behind it is the Servizio Diritto allo Studio, in the Area Campus Life at Politecnico. A student with foreign income has a second errand on the same deadline, handing the documents to the CAF that Politecnico has an agreement with, because no other CAF is valid.
Regione Lombardia sets the ISEE and ISPE ceilings, the scholarship amounts and the yearly rules by a decision of the regional government, and each university applies them in its own call, so a Politecnico di Milano student competes in the Politecnico call, is ranked by Politecnico and is paid by Politecnico.

Check this yourself before you plan around it
Two things I could not pin down. The published documents give closing dates only, so I could not verify the date the online form opened for 2026/2027, only that the base call is dated 27 May 2026 and the supplement 1 July 2026. And the call lets students from particularly poor countries hand the CAF a certificate from the Italian diplomatic representation instead of the full income file, but the list of those countries is set nationally and I did not verify whether Pakistan is on the list in force for 2026/2027.

Do I apply to Regione Lombardia or to the university?
To the university. Regione Lombardia sets the criteria and the amounts, and the universities, AFAM institutions and SSML schools apply them in their own calls. For Politecnico di Milano the application is the online form in Servizi Online, at Agevolazioni e Convenzioni > Presentazione domanda benefici Diritto allo Studio.
My family income is in Pakistan. What do I use instead of an ISEE?
An ISEEU parificato. The call is blunt about where it comes from: to obtain the ISEEU parificato you must go exclusively to the CAF that has an agreement with Politecnico di Milano, and no other route is valid. The documents had to reach that CAF by the same deadline as the application, 5 August 2026 for a first year student, on pain of the application being inadmissible.
Does the grant pay my tuition as well?
Yes, while you hold it. Holders are exempt from fees and contributions, and the call notes that forfeiting the benefit means losing that exemption. You still pay the regional tax, stamp duty and insurance premium, and you still have to pay the first instalment on time to count as regularly enrolled.
Can I hold this and another scholarship at the same time?
No. The grant cannot be combined with similar financial help from Politecnico or from any other public or private body, and INPS support for accredited merit residences is named as an example. If you are awarded both you choose one, and if you take the non DSU award you must tell the Servizio Diritto allo Studio within 10 days of accepting it. Three things are carved out: scholarships from Italian or foreign institutions for study or research stays abroad, awards tied to national mobility programmes, and merit payments for excellence programmes. Paid student collaboration work at Politecnico is not blocked.
How much is actually in my bank account?
Less than the headline. A catering deduction of 829.00 euro is taken from the grant, half from each instalment, and a student housed in a Politecnico residence has a further 2,847.00 euro withheld for the room. That is why the away from home cash figure drops to between 2,229 and 4,620 euro for someone in a university residence.
Is there a bonus for women in engineering?
Yes. For female students enrolled in STEM subjects the grant due is increased by 20 per cent. The ministry circular the call cites says this 20 per cent cannot be stacked with the 15 per cent increase for students whose ISEE is below half the ceiling, so it is calculated on the second or third bracket amount.
