This programme is taught in Italian and English, so Italian applies from the start. Politecnico requires an Italian certificate at B2 for programmes taught entirely in Italian, or in Italian and English, and asks for it at enrolment. You must also certify Italian before sitting the graduation exam.”

Politecnico di Milano does not price degrees individually. One all inclusive contribution covers any programme and is scaled by ISEE, the Italian measure of household income and assets, from 157.04 euro at the bottom of the scale to 3,943.04 euro at the top. The figure here is the top, because the university states that an international student in the reserved non EU category, admitted with a first level qualification obtained abroad and holding no scholarship, pays the maximum whatever ISEE says.

“Admission to the Master's Degree Programme is subject to verification of the candidate's personal preparation and placement in a sufficiently high position in the merit ranking. Prior to the assessment of individual preparation, candidates must demonstrate a weighted average grade of no less than 23/30 if they are graduates of Politecnico di Milano, and no less than 25/30 if they are graduates of other Italian universities; candidates holding a foreign qualification must also demonstrate an adequate level of English proficiency. Admission is based on the evaluation of a portfolio or thesis abstract, CV, motivation letter, and, for candidates who did not graduate from Politecnico di Milano, the study plan, as well as on placement in the merit ranking (maximum 100 points: 50 for the portfolio, 20 for the CV, 30 for the average grade; with a 5-point bonus for first choice). A minimum B2 English language certification is mandatory.”

- Cumulative GPA statement: must show both your CGPA and the grading scale with the minimum passing grade in use at your university, officially issued by the university

About this degree.
A two-year master's degree that approaches product design from a systemic perspective, joining technical skill with strategic, cultural, environmental and social judgement about the whole product system. It suits industrial design graduates, and graduates of related classes holding design credits, who want to work on innovation at the conceptual front end of product development.
The Master's Degree in Integrated Product Design approaches product design from a systemic perspective, identifying and integrating all aspects that, together with the product, contribute to generating value for users, businesses and society. Through an exploratory and research based approach, the programme aims to develop critical and strategic thinking, pushing students to use systemic criteria in the design process.

In the product system, knowledge and technical skills are integrated with a strategic vision that connects market elements, cultural dimensions, technical qualities, environmental and social needs, in order to develop all communication, distribution and service processes critically, responsibly and sustainably. Beyond a solid technical preparation, the programme provides knowledge, competencies and capabilities to critically interpret social and cultural phenomena, to guide design solutions toward sustainable and responsible directions, and to develop the skills needed for working in multidisciplinary and cross functional teams.
The programme focuses its educational objectives on the processes and methods through which design generates innovation within socio technical systems, envisioning sustainable development scenarios. Specific objectives include the development and consolidation of cultural references, conceptual and methodological tools, and technical skills that are central to design culture, with a strong orientation towards the exploration of innovative opportunities, the construction of a critical capacity to assess the impact of design on social, cultural and economic contexts, and the ability to plan and manage projects strategically.
The design of artefacts, understood as objects, products and goods, becomes the focal point where many of the urgencies of contemporary society converge and a reflection of our material civilization. Product design is entrusted with the capacity to activate large scale processes of change capable of generating a different social, cultural and environmental quality.
Among the various phases of the design and development process in which design contributes to innovation, particular attention is paid to the so called fuzzy front end of innovation, where the conceptualization of the design problem is crucial, that is, the trained ability to structure in an original way the perception of a problem or a given condition, and where the tension between creativity and the capacity for systematization is especially strong.
