“The rule, verbatim: "All applicants need to provide a document attesting their English language knowledge." A medium of instruction letter replaces the test. The exemption clause, verbatim: "Students who can prove that English was the medium of instruction for their Bachelor's degree (for at least 3 years) are exempt from providing any English language certification. In this case, students must upload a document certified by their university confirming that at least 75% of the courses in their programme were taught in English." Italian is not needed to enter this programme. Politecnico asks for proof of Italian at enrolment only for programmes taught entirely in Italian, or in Italian and English. It is needed before you graduate. The university states that an Italian language proficiency test is mandatory for international students admitted to all English language Laurea Magistrale programmes, and that you must certify the language before sitting the graduation exam. Politecnico di Milano does not price degrees individually. One all inclusive contribution covers any programme and is scaled by ISEE, the Italian measure of household income and assets, from 157.04 euro at the bottom of the scale to 3,943.04 euro at the top. The figure here is the top, because the university states that an international student in the reserved non EU category, admitted with a first level qualification obtained abroad and holding no scholarship, pays the maximum whatever ISEE says.

“Admission to the Master degree program is subject to an evaluation process aimed at verifying the candidate suitability. In accordance with current regulations, this process is based on the assessment of curricular requirements and the adequacy of the student's academic preparation. Admission to the Master degree will be decided at the sole discretion of an Evaluation Committee established for this purpose, based on the analysis of the candidate's academic record. Graduates of the Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano who have obtained a final weighted average grade of at least 21/30 will be automatically admitted to the Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering. Graduates of other Bachelor degree programs within the School of Industrial and Information Engineering at Politecnico di Milano who have obtained a final weighted average grade of at least 22/30 will be automatically admitted to the Master degree program in Electrical Engineering. For all candidates who do not fall within the above categories, admission will be decided on a case-by-case basis by the Admissions Committee, based on the previous academic curriculum and final degree grade. For students with a non-Italian degree, admission will be decided at the sole discretion of an Evaluation Committee, based on the analysis of the candidate's previous academic record and final graduation grade.”

A two year Master of Science covering the production, transmission, distribution and use of electrical energy, from power electronics and electrical machines to smart grids, electric mobility, electromagnetic compatibility and diagnostics. It suits electrical or industrial engineering graduates who want to work on the energy transition, with a choice between a general track and a smart grids track.
Electrical engineers study, design, and manage systems related to the production, transmission, distribution, and use of electricity. From generation using traditional and renewable sources to powering industrial, residential, and transportation systems, electrical engineers are key to ensuring energy efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
The university's full description
The skills of an Electrical Engineer are essential to the energy transition, as electricity represents the primary driver for electrifying consumption and reducing emissions. Electrical engineers play a key role in the development and integration of renewable energy sources, smart grids, advanced storage systems, electric mobility (road, public transport, electric naval propulsion, and electric aviation), data centres, and the management of complex, highly efficient infrastructures.
Thanks to the transversal skills acquired, this professional figure is essential to address the technological and environmental challenges of the future, contributing directly to a more sustainable and digitalized society that is attentive to the conscious use of energy resources.
The Programme in Electrical Engineering develops specific skills in the electrical energy field, not only with regard to the production, transmission, and distribution of electrical energy, but also in the multiple and varied reality of industrial, domestic, and hospital electrical applications, in the transport sector, in automation and home automation systems, in electromagnetic compatibility, and in measurement and diagnostic techniques for complex systems.
Students can opt for the main track, Electrical Engineering (track R2D), or for a track more focused on smart grids, Sustainable Smart Grids for Energy Transition (track R2E). The first year of the main track includes theoretical courses aimed at building in-depth knowledge of advanced mathematical tools, fundamental measurement techniques for electrical systems, the fundamentals of electrical power systems, and the energy market, followed by power electronics and an introduction to the fundamentals of electromagnetic compatibility, plus additional specialized courses chosen by the student and soft skills courses.
The second-year curriculum includes courses aimed at further in-depth study in various areas of electrical engineering, including the design and construction of electrical machines, electrical systems for transport and electric propulsion, electrical power systems, reliability and quality control, measurement and diagnostic techniques, electrical drives, electrical energy production plants, the impact of renewable sources on the electrical grid and communication systems for electrical networks (smart grids). Students can compose their second-year study plan by selecting elective courses, which allow them to orient it towards four areas of expertise: Energy and Renewable Sources, Transport and Electric Mobility, Design and Automation, and Smart Grids.
The Sustainable Smart Grids for Energy Transition (R2E) track enables students to acquire more focused skills in the design, management, and operation of smart electricity grids. In addition to the core courses of the main program, it includes specific courses aimed at developing skills related to the transport and transformation of electricity, network management, and plant operation, including development and maintenance, as well as the regulation of electricity systems. This track has limited places; the selection is carried out by a commission composed of members appointed by the Study Program.
