The accepted test list is university wide and closed: FCE, IELTS Academic, a valid TOEFL iBT, CAE, CPE, Pearson Test of English General Level 3 at B2 CEFR or higher, and Pearson Test of English Academic. The IELTS Academic Home-Based Test and the TOEFL iBT Home Edition Test are included. Scores are set per programme, and 46 of the 54 entries print the same pair: IELTS 5.5 or higher with TOEFL iBT 80 or higher. Most also accept Cambridge English B2 First or higher and Trinity College London ISE II or higher. Eight differ, and three ask for more. MSc Business Management asks IELTS 6.5 or higher and TOEFL iBT 95 or higher. MA English and Anglo-American Studies recommends IELTS Academic 7.0 or TOEFL 95 at C1, and may reject an application with no certificate. MSc Chemical Engineering asks IELTS level 6 or higher, above the usual floor, while its TOEFL floor is lower, at internet-based 72. One asks for less. BSc Applied Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence asks IELTS Academic no lower than 5.5, TOEFL iBT no lower than 72 out of 120, and Pearson Test of English Academic no lower than 42. Four entries print no score. BSc Bioinformatics says no certificate is mandatory. BA Global Humanities accepts a longer list of tests. MSc Atmospheric Science and Technology for Meteorology & Climate follows the University of L'Aquila, which runs it. MSc Green Industrial Engineering for Sustainable Development lists only Cambridge and Trinity, and interviews an applicant with neither. 53 of the 54 entries set a minimum GPA out of 100. The published minimums run from 60 to 90, and 75 is the most common. On a medium of instruction letter, two Sapienza documents disagree, so read the entry for your own programme. The university wide English language requirements sheet restricts the waiver by country: "Please, note that only for the countries listed below, with English as the primary medium of instruction (MOI) the language requirement is completely waived", and the list is the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Pakistan is not on it. The same sheet limits the English taught diploma or degree waiver to "an accredited institution in the EU/EEA/Schengen or in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States". Against that, six programme entries in the 2026-2027 requirements document carry a waiver line with no country limit at all: "Students holding a degree from an accredited institution where English is the main language of instruction." The six are BSc Sustainable Building Engineering, MSc Biochemistry, MSc Environmental and Sustainable Building Engineering, MSc Finance and Insurance, MSc Green Industrial Engineering for Sustainable Development and MSc Health Economics. The language requirements sheet is the governing document, so treat those six as the exception. Two waivers on that sheet carry no country limit and are open to a Pakistani applicant: a General Certificate of Education, and a Diploma of International Baccalaureate. BA Global Humanities sets its own rule. A holder of a high school diploma taught in English, including an International Baccalaureate or an IGCSE, must supply an official document from the school or institution "stating that the medium of instruction and assessment was English". The entry adds: "Without this document, the application will not be considered valid." The Duolingo English Test is not accepted for degree programmes. The word Duolingo appears nowhere in the English language requirements sheet, nowhere in the 2026-2027 per programme requirements document, and nowhere in the student regulation. It is accepted on one route only, the Foundation Year, which is not a degree. That call states: "The following certifications are unconditionally accepted: IELTS, TOEFL, CFE, Duolingo." Italian is not required for an English taught programme. A non-EU citizen resident abroad who enrols on an Italian taught course must submit a B2 certificate from a CLIQ institution, or pass the Sapienza CISIA ITA L2 test at B2. Marco Polo students need B1. Completing the Foundation Year removes the Italian exam requirement. An interview in place of a certificate is not generally offered. It is available to refugees, asylum seekers, displaced and stateless people, applicants from war torn countries and students with certified disabilities, and on a few programmes at the committee's discretion.
