Engineering in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence

The catalogue sets out how the 120 credits are split. Core courses are 48 compulsory credits. Specialised courses are 12 elective credits chosen from a set of core subjects. Related and supplementary courses are 12 elective credits chosen from a set of related subjects. There is a practical course in Advanced Programming worth 3 credits. There is a seminar based course worth 3 credits. Free elective courses are 12 credits. The Master's thesis is 30 credits.

The study plan page lists the taught modules for 2026/2027. The first year carries Dependable distributed systems at 9 credits, Cybersecurity at 9 credits, MACHINE LEARNING at 6 credits, Artificial Intelligence at 6 credits, Laboratory of advanced programming at 3 credits, ALGORITHM DESIGN at 6 credits and USER-DRIVEN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING at 6 credits. The second year carries Advanced Topics in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at 3 credits and the Final exam at 30 credits. Two optional groups each ask for 12 credits. The modules listed in those groups include Data Mining, Knowledge Representation and Semantic Technologies, LARGE-SCALE DATA MANAGEMENT, Malware analysis, Visual Analytics, Graph mining and applications, GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, Planning and Reasoning, Reinforcement Learning, Computer Vision, INTERACTIVE GRAPHICS, Multilingual natural language processing, Secure Computation, NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURES, Robotics I and NEURAL NETWORKS. Two rows on the plan print a course code and a credit value but leave the course name blank, because the catalogue states that its 2026/2027 content is still being updated.

To be admitted you must hold a three year bachelor's degree or a three year university diploma, or a qualification obtained abroad that is recognised as equivalent. The call asks for a basic background in science, engineering and computer science. In credit terms that means at least 60 credits in named subject sectors. At least 24 of those must sit in the core sectors of mathematics, computer science, statistics and physics, and at least 9 of the 24 must be in mathematics. At least 36 must sit in information engineering, industrial engineering or computer science sectors, and at least 18 of the 36 must be in ING-INF/05 or INF/01. The international admission requirements document sets a minimum grade point average of 75 out of 100. It also says that selected students are invited to a Skype interview that tests their skills and background.

The English rule for this degree is CEFR level B2. The international admission requirements document prints the scores for this programme: IELTS 5.5 or higher, TOEFL iBT 80 or higher, Cambridge English B2 First or higher, or Trinity College London Integrated Skills in English ISE II or higher. The same document waives the certificate for native speakers, for holders of an International Baccalaureate, GCSE or comparable certificate, and for holders of an English taught diploma or degree from an accredited institution in the EU, EEA or Schengen area or in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States. Pakistan is not on that list, so a Pakistani applicant taught in English at home still needs one of the four certificates. Duolingo is not accepted.

There are two steps and two fees. International applicants who need a visa first make a pre-selection application on MoveIn and pay 30 euro for each application, with a limit of two applications per candidate per intake. Sapienza states that no waiver of that fee is available. Separately, the programme's own call asks you to request the eligibility check by paying 10 euro through Infostud, entering code 33515. The call opened that payment on 2 July 2026 and sets five closing dates: 15 September 2026, 15 October 2026, 17 November 2026, 17 December 2026 and 14 January 2027. The call states that 15 September 2026 is the only applicable date for applicants from non-EU countries who need a student visa. The 14 January 2027 date is reserved for students who have graduated from Sapienza or are about to. Applicants from non-EU countries who live abroad and want a student visa must also hold a letter of pre-acceptance.

Tuition depends on where your income is declared. Article 38 of the student regulations says that a student who declares income abroad pays a fixed amount set by a country band. Band A is 300 euro a year, band B is 700 euro and band C is 1,500 euro. Pakistan is named in band A. A student who declares income in Italy and claims no reduction pays the standard rate for this faculty, which is 2,924 euro a year, and that amount can be reduced against the Italian ISEE assessment.
