The programme sits in the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy and is run by the Department of European, American and Intercultural Studies. It has one curriculum and runs for two years. Teaching is in person in Rome. The catalogue code is 33548 and the degree class is LM-37.
Sapienza writes that the course is aimed at students whose mother tongue or working language is English. The first year completes language learning and covers the literature of specific areas. Two courses are compulsory in that year. Optional groups add at least one course in Italian and philology, at least one in linguistics or philosophy of language, and one that starts a specialisation in either language and its history or literature. A module in English language teaching is available for students who want to teach.
The second year lets students choose between linguistic modules and critical or historical literary modules. On the literature side the choice is between English and American literature. On the language side there are specialisation modules in translation, including sector specific and technical language and audiovisual media. The programme is completed by an internship and a dissertation worth 24 credits.
Admission needs a first level degree, a three year university diploma, or a qualification obtained abroad and recognised as equivalent. You must have at least 84 CFU across a long published list of subject sectors. At least 54 of those must be in English or Anglo-American language and literature, with at least 24 in English language. Sapienza sets a minimum mark of 75 out of 100 for this programme. Applicants with a foreign degree are called to an interview.

Sapienza's admissions page states that the deadline for non-EU candidates who need a visa expired on 15 May 2026, and that applications closed for everyone else on 31 July 2026. The programme call still lists 15 September 2026 as an eligibility check date, but the mandatory pre-acceptance step that comes before it has closed.
When does teaching start?
The Faculty of Arts and Philosophy calendar sets the first semester of 2026-2027 from Tuesday 29 September 2026 to Saturday 19 December 2026. The second semester runs from 22 February 2027 to 29 May 2027.
