What the call asks for
A three year degree or university diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable.
Graduates of class L-30 Scienze e tecnologie fisiche, and of earlier equivalent classes, enter the degree directly.
Other graduates must have earned minimum credits in named sectors: FIS/01 40 cfu, FIS/02 20 cfu, FIS/03 6 cfu, FIS/04 6 cfu, MAT/05 12 CFU, MAT/03 6 CFU.
Where those credits are missing, the commission that assesses curricular requirements states how to make them up, including by enrolling in single courses.
Personal preparation is checked by an interview with a commission appointed by the Department of Physics Council.
The interview covers linear algebra, mathematical analysis in one and several variables, linear operators, the basics of classical and modern physics, mechanics, thermodynamics and electromagnetism, elements of quantum mechanics, special relativity and nuclear physics.
Laboratory skills, data analysis in physics and the use of computing tools are also required.

The university states the curriculum aims to give students the ability to deal with complex systems and to identify the most adequate computational platforms and software frameworks. The programme page lists advanced physics in quantum mechanics, material science and mathematical methods for physics, plus specific lectures on optimization and statistical mechanics, complex and neural networks, machine learning or web mining and retrieval, digital data analysis, advanced statistics and data bases. Many lectures include practical work in laboratories run with research centres in the Tor Vergata area in informatics, electronics and astrophysics.
The 2026/2027 teaching guide sets the modules. Year one, first semester: Mathematical Methods for Physics 8 cfu, Quantum Mechanics 8 cfu, Materials Science 8 cfu, and 1 esame a scelta libera 6 cfu, for 30 cfu. Year one, second semester: Optimization and Statistical Mechanics 8 cfu, Complex and Neural Networks 8 cfu, 1 esame a scelta libera 6 cfu, and Lingua Inglese o Italiano 2 cfu, for 24 cfu. Year two, first semester: Advanced Statistics 10 cfu, Digital Data Analysis 8 cfu, and 1 corso a scelta da Elenco 9 cfu, for 27 cfu. Year two, second semester: Tesi, 39 cfu. Two courses are compulsory across every curriculum of this degree, and for this curriculum they are delivered as Mathematical Methods for Physics and Quantum Mechanics.
Access is open. The admission notice lists Fisica among the master's degrees subject to a compulsory prior check of curricular requirements and of the adequacy of personal preparation, under article 6 paragraph 1 of Ministerial Decree 270/2004. There is no written entrance test. The didactic regulation sets the credit thresholds in named physics and maths sectors, and an interview with a commission appointed by the Department of Physics Council checks personal preparation. Graduates of class L-30 Scienze e tecnologie fisiche enter directly. No minimum mark or grade average is published.
Applications go through the Delphi online services portal. For students in Italy the first round of the curricular requirements check ran from 28 May 2026 to 31 December 2026, and a second round runs from 1 February 2027 to 31 March 2027. International students living abroad who need a study visa and choose an English taught curriculum of this degree follow a separate route, an Application Assessment in English, described on the university admissions pages. Non EU students abroad also had to complete pre enrolment on the Universitaly platform by 31 July 2026 for the 2026/2027 year, and upload the pre enrolment summary validated by the university. Lessons for 2026/2027 start on 28 September 2026.
Tuition has two parts. The regional tax and stamp duty of 156 euro is due in every case. On top of that sits an all inclusive contribution set by the degree's contribution class. This degree is not named in any special class, so it falls in contribution class 1, where the ordinary rate runs from 0 euro to a maximum of 2,270 euro per year.
