Bachelor's degree in Italian class L-7 Lauree in Ingegneria Civile e Ambientale, L-8 Lauree in Ingegneria dell'Informazione, L-9 Lauree in Ingegneria Industriale, or equivalent.
A degree awarded abroad must correspond to the first cycle of the Bologna Process and to level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework, and must have been awarded by a higher education institution that allows progression locally to the second cycle of the Bologna Process, level 7 EQF.
Minimum CFU in named subject areas: 15 CFU in MAT/01-09; 5 CFU in INF/01 and ING-INF/05; 15 CFU in FIS/01-08; 5 CFU in CHIM/03 and CHIM/07; 5 CFU in ING-IND/31; 30 CFU across ING-INF/01, ING-INF/04, ING-IND/10, ING-IND/11, ING-IND/13 and ICAR/08.
If your curriculum does not meet those credit minimums you must make up the gap before you can enrol, and the extra credits must be earned before the personal preparation check.

A personal preparation interview with the Coordinator or a delegate, covering Matematica, Fisica, Chimica, Elettronica, Automatica, Meccanica, Fisica Tecnica and Elettrotecnica. Applicants whose average mark across all examinations, that is the Final GPA, or whose degree mark, is above the set threshold of 2.7 out of 4 are exempt from the interview.

About this degree.
A two year Master of Science taught in English at Tor Vergata, joining electronics, mechanics and automatic control into one degree in mechatronic system design. It suits an engineering graduate from an electronics, mechanical, biomedical or systems background who wants robotics, power electronics, embedded systems and vehicle powertrains in the same 120 CFU plan.
Mechatronics Engineering is a two year Master of Science at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. It is taught in English at the School of Engineering, in the Department of Electronic Engineering. The Italian degree class is LM-29 and the course code is T20. The programme is worth 120 CFU, which is 120 ECTS. Classes are given in person only. The programme states that online attendance is not available.
The university's full description
The teaching is built on three subjects: electronics, mechanics and automatics. The university writes that the student's skills are developed in electronic design, digital and analogue and including RF, in power electronics, in sensors for measuring and transducing physical quantities, in robotics covering both mechanics and control, in combustion engines, in automation and control, and in ICT.
The plan has a common core of 78 CFU taken by every student. For 2026/27 the core modules are INTEGRATED SENSORS at 9 CFU, NANOTECHNOLOGY at 6 CFU, VLSI CIRCUIT AND SYSTEM DESIGN at 9 CFU, CONTROL OF MECHANICAL SYSTEMS at 9 CFU, ELECTRONICS OF IOT AND EMBEDDED SYSTEMS at 12 CFU, ROBOT MECHANICS at 9 CFU, COMPUTER VISION at 6 CFU, POWER ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL DRIVES at 9 CFU and POWERTRAIN TECHNOLOGIES FOR FUTURE MOBILITY at 9 CFU. The 12 CFU module splits into two parts, M-5519 ELECTRONICS OF IOT and M-5520 DESIGN OF EMBEDDED SYSTEMS FOR MECHATRONICS.
On top of the core each student takes one block worth 24 CFU. The blocks are BLOCK A MECHANICS AND DIGITAL TRANSITION, BLOCK B ELECTRONICS AND DIGITAL TRANSITION, BLOCK C1 LEARNING AND COMMUNICATION, BLOCK C2 INTERCONNECTED ELECTRIC VEHICLE ENGINEERING, BLOCK D COMPUTATIONAL METHODS and BLOCK E ELECTROMECHANICS. The university states the block must be consistent with the subjects studied in your bachelor's degree, so that gaps in your background are filled. Block A is for students with an electronics background. Block B is for students from mechanical engineering. Blocks C1 and C2 are for students from engineering sciences, systems engineering or mechatronics. Block E was changed for 2026/27. Formative activities or an internship are worth 6 CFU. The final thesis is worth 12 CFU. Together that is 120 CFU.
Access is open with a check of your curriculum. There is no ranked entrance exam. You must hold a bachelor's degree in Italian class L-7, L-8 or L-9, or an equivalent. A foreign degree must sit at first cycle of the Bologna Process and level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework. The call also sets a minimum number of CFU in named subject areas, and the coordinator runs a personal preparation interview. Students whose final GPA or degree mark is above 2.7 out of 4 are exempt from that interview.
English must be at least CEFR level B2. The programme publishes a closed list of accepted certificate bodies and states that a certificate from any other body will not be assessed. Duolingo is not on that list. The only substitute is a university issued proficiency certificate paired with a GRE General Test score.
Fees have two parts. Every student pays 156 euro of regional tax and stamp duty. On top of that comes the all inclusive contribution. The Student Handbook for 2026/27 places Mechatronics Engineering in contribution class 2, where ordinary taxation runs from 0 euro to a maximum of 3,100 euro a year and is worked out from your ISEE. An international student with income abroad who cannot produce an ISEE pays a fixed contribution instead. For this programme that fixed contribution is 1,000 euro a year, or 500 euro a year for students from the developing countries named in the handbook. Pakistan is not on that list.

Do I need IELTS to apply?
Not specifically. The programme asks for English at CEFR level B2 and accepts certificates from thirteen named bodies, including IELTS, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge, Trinity College London and TOEIC. A certificate from any body outside that list will not be assessed. Duolingo is not on the list.
Is there a way to apply without an English test certificate?
Yes, one. You may submit a proficiency certificate issued by a university that itself requires B2 English for entry, but only together with a GRE General Test score. Tor Vergata's GRE institution code is 3369. The proficiency certificate on its own is not enough.
What will the degree cost per year?
Every student pays 156 euro of regional tax and stamp duty.
