The university's own test

The university’s exact wording
“To access the course, knowledge of the English language equivalent to B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is required, certified through possession of one of the following certificates: IELTS - General Training or Academic - minimum 6.5; First Certificate (FCE) - ESOL Cambridge Exam; Business English Certificate (BEC) - Vantage level - ESOL Cambridge Exam; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): IBT (Test online) minimum 87, PBT (hard copy Test) minimum 513, CBT (online Test) minimum 183; Trinity College London - Integrated Skills in English - ISE II. A B2 level English language exam taken during the 3-year degree course may be considered suitable. Candidates who can prove they are native speakers are exempt from presenting certification of such knowledge. Candidates who do not have a certificate of knowledge of the English language can still apply; the Selection Committee will evaluate their CVs and transcripts of records, and if the evaluation is positive, knowledge of the English language will be ascertained during the online interview. The programme FAQ states the same rule more briefly: Is the English language certificate required? No, your knowledge of English will be assessed at the Skype interview. However, you may choose to submit the certificate to supplement your application.”

Before any of it counts

The degree

About this degree.

The Master of Science in Economics is a two year degree taught in English at the School of Economics of Tor Vergata University of Rome. It suits graduates with a quantitative first degree who want theoretical and applied economics tools for work in the private sector, in public institutions or in academia.

The Master of Science in Economics is a two year full time degree at Tor Vergata University of Rome. It is taught in English. It belongs to Italian degree class LM-56 and carries course code H71. The School of Economics runs it, in the Department of Economics and Finance. Teaching is on campus at Via Columbia 2, 00133 Rome.

The university's full description

The programme covers four semesters. Each academic year is divided into two semesters, and each semester into two modules. Each module involves six weeks of teaching, with exams at the end of each module. The degree is worth 120 ECTS. The final dissertation is worth 18 ECTS of that total.

The first year covers Mathematics, Statistics, Advanced Microeconomics and Coding for Economic Applications in the first semester. The second semester covers Advanced Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Strategy and Information, and Business Cycles and Inflation. The second year covers Law and Economics, 36 credits of elective courses, and the thesis. Students must take six elective courses.

The degree proposes three areas of expertise, called tracks: Data Science and Econometrics, Economics and Social Processes, and Applied Economics and Policy. The tracks help students orient their elective choice. They are not formally recognised in Delphi, the university student system. Students may also choose other courses taught in English at Tor Vergata at Master of Science level. The study plan is subject to formal approval by the MSc Economics Academic Board.

Students may substitute one elective course with a curricular internship. The internship is worth 6 credits for 150 hours, which is three months. It may be chosen only once during enrollment.

First year students may apply to spend their second year at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden or the University of Konstanz in Germany. They must have completed at least 60 ECTS at Tor Vergata before leaving.

Admission has two steps. First, an online application through the Delphi system, which the Admission Board checks against the entry requirements. Second, an online interview on Microsoft Teams for candidates who meet those requirements. The interview is held in English, lasts around 30 minutes and cannot be rescheduled. A candidate who does not attend is automatically excluded. The Admission Board sends the result by email within two weeks of the interview.

Applicants may apply before their bachelor's degree is conferred. At most 18 ECTS credits may be missing at the time of applying. In that case the candidate must state the degree exam date and the list of remaining exams on the CV.
