“The programme's own call for applications, academic year 2026-2027, is headed "Admission procedure for the Master's degree programme with assessment of entry requirements and personal knowledge". Section 2 states: "To be admitted, applicants must successfully pass an assessment of their academic qualifications and personal knowledge according to the criteria set out below." The Italian text of the same call reads: "2. Requisiti di accesso. Per essere ammessi occorre superare con esito favorevole la verifica dei requisiti curriculari e della preparazione personale secondo i criteri specificati a seguire." No number of places, no ranking and no graduatoria appear anywhere in either version. The programme is also absent from Sapienza's "Call for applications for English taught programmes" page, which lists the English taught programmes that do run a restricted admission call with a test and a ranking. So this is accesso libero with verification of entry requirements, not accesso programmato. One qualification matters for an international applicant, and the call states it directly: "With regard to the Mechanical Engineering Design programme, delivered entirely in English, students of foreign nationality will only be admitted following a preliminary selection process in accordance with the relevant call for applications, defined annually based on the requirements of the programme's Academic Regulations. The minimum admission threshold for the final degree mark is a mark equivalent to 24.00/30." That preliminary selection is a screening gate on the MoveIn platform. It is not a capped number of seats.”

Within that 66 CFU: no fewer than 48 CFU in at least 4 modules relating to core knowledge in the three areas of mechanical engineering training, being the Design area, Energy Systems and Energy Conversion, and the Mechanical Technology and Industrial Plant Area.
Personal knowledge check: "If the degree mark is less than 90.00/110, or if the weighted average calculated on the basis of ECTS credits is less than 22.00/30, enrolment is subject to a test to assess personal knowledge".
For the Mechanical Engineering Design curriculum, delivered entirely in English, foreign nationals are admitted only after a preliminary selection. "The minimum admission threshold for the final degree mark is a mark equivalent to 24.00/30."

Where the academic requirements are not met, CADIMe sets single examinations to close the gap. The number of single examinations takes the degree average into account: 27.00/30 or above allows up to two subject areas, 24.00/30 or above but less than 27.00/30 allows up to one subject area.
For the two dual degrees with universities in the United States, Automazione with NYU Tandon and Materiali with Georgia Tech, applicants must have obtained their degree with a mark of 101 or above and demonstrate a good knowledge of English certified by TOEFL or GRE tests.

The degree is split into nine curricula. Six are Progettazione Meccanica, Veicoli, Meccatronica, Produzione Industriale, Energia and Mechanical Engineering Design. Three more are Automazione, Materiali and Meccanica Computazionale. Those three also lead to a double degree, with New York University Tandon School of Engineering, Georgia Tech University and Sorbonne Universite in that order. Only Mechanical Engineering Design is delivered entirely in English. The presentation page states this as "erogato integralmente in lingua inglese". If you do not read Italian, this is the only curriculum you can follow in full.
The study plan for Mechanical Engineering Design lists these compulsory modules in English: CONTROL SYSTEMS, 9 CFU; Fluid machinery in energy conversion systems, 9 CFU; OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT, 6 CFU; ADVANCED METHODS IN MECHANICAL DESIGN, 6 CFU; Measurement for mechanical systems and industry, 9 CFU; ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING AND PRODUCTION SYSTEMS, 9 CFU; ADVANCED METALLIC MATERIALS, 6 CFU. The same compulsory block also carries two 6 CFU items and one 18 CFU item that the English catalogue prints without a title. The objectives page states that a final written work, the elaborato finale, completes the course.
On top of that core the plan sets three optional groups. The group named "MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DESIGN - 2 courses in class B (15 ects)" offers Dynamics of Micro-Mechatronic Systems, MECHANICS OF ROBOT MANIPULATORS, MECHATRONICS AND VIBRATIONS, SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE FOR INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS, ADVANCED ENERGY CONVERSION SYSTEM, VEHICLE SYSTEM DYNAMICS AND MECHATRONICS and COMPUTATIONAL THERMO-FLUIDS ANALYSIS IN FLUID MACHINERY, all taught in English. Admission runs on two gates rather than one. The first gate is the academic requirement, counted in CFU from your bachelor's degree. The second gate is the personal knowledge check, which reads your degree mark. A degree mark below 90.00/110, or an ECTS weighted average below 22.00/30, triggers a written test. The Mechanical Engineering Area Educational Board, called CADIMe, carries out the assessment. Where you fall short, CADIMe can set single examinations to close the gap.
A separate rule applies to foreign nationals who want the English curriculum.
