It is split into four curricula and only one of them is taught in English, so it suits an engineering graduate who checks the curriculum before applying.
Sapienza runs this degree as a laurea magistrale in class LM-30, under programme code 34181. It lasts two years and carries 120 credits. Teaching is in person, in Rome. The Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering runs it. The department is INGEGNERIA ELETTRICA ED ENERGETICA.
The university's full description
The catalogue card gives the language as Italian, English. That is because the degree is split into four curricula and only one of them is in English. The three Italian ones are Applicazioni industriali dell'energia, Applicazioni civili dell'energia and Scienze e tecnologie nucleari. The English one is listed as Energy Engineering in lingua inglese. Sapienza describes it as a general curriculum in which both renewable and nuclear energy topics can be studied. A student who does not read Italian has to choose that curriculum.
In the English curriculum the compulsory modules in year one are ENGINEERING THERMOFLUIDS, ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEMS, ELECTRICAL MACHINES and FLUID MACHINERY. Year two adds ADVANCED ENERGY CONVERSION SYSTEM and ENERGY MANAGEMENT AND APPLICATION. A further 12 credit slot in year one is filled by two courses taken from the optional lists.
Those optional lists include MODERN PHYSICS FOR ENGINEERS, SMART GRID FOR POWER SYSTEMS, GEOTHERMAL ENERGY, PLASMA PHYSICS AND FUSION ENERGY, SUSTAINABLE COMBUSTION CHEMISTRY, FUSION REACTOR TECHNOLOGY, RADIATION PROTECTION, LIGHTING DESIGN, POWER SYSTEMS IN SMART BUILDINGS, PRINCIPLES AND DESIGN OF SMART CITIES, COMPUTATIONAL THERMO-FLUIDS ANALYSIS IN FLUID MACHINERY, ELECTRICAL ENERGY CONVERSION FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES and SUSTAINABLE ENERGY - RESOURCES AND APPLICATIONS. Shorter laboratory modules of 3 credits each include NEUTRONIC DESIGN OF NUCLEAR SYSTEMS, RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEM DESIGN, WIND TECHNOLOGIES: SIZING, DEVELOPMENT AND OPTIMIZATION, INTRODUCTION TO OCEAN ENERGY and INTRODUCTION TO CFD. The plan ends with PROVA FINALE, a thesis worth 21 credits.
Admission is a check of your requirements, not a ranked competition. The call asks for a three-year degree and then sets credit minimums in named Italian subject sectors, adding up to at least 109 credits out of the 180 in that degree. If you are short, the call says you may acquire the missing credits by passing single examinations.
One step is specific to this degree and it depends on the curriculum you pick. A non-EU applicant who lives abroad and needs a student visa must hold a pre-acceptance letter from Sapienza's MoveIN pre-selection if they choose the English curriculum. The same applicant choosing an Italian curriculum needs no such letter, but must pass an Italian language test at B2 or hold an Italian certificate at B2 or above.
Sapienza sets the yearly fee by the country where a student's income is declared. Pakistan is in Band A, which pays 300 euro a year, split into instalments of 90, 105 and 105 euro. Sapienza states that the 2026-2027 fee information is published after 30 September 2026.

Can I take this degree in English?
Only on one of the four curricula. The study plan lists it as Energy Engineering in lingua inglese. The other three are taught in Italian. The catalogue card says Italian, English for the degree as a whole, which is why the curriculum has to be checked before you apply.
My bachelor's degree was taught in English in Pakistan. Does that waive the English test?
No. Sapienza waives the requirement for an English-taught qualification only when it comes from an accredited institution in the EU, the EEA, the Schengen area, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States. A separate rule waives it in full for six countries where English is the medium of instruction: the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Pakistan is on neither list.
Which English score do I actually need?
Plan for IELTS 6 and TOEFL iBT 80. The programme's own call asks for IELTS Level 6 and TOEFL Internet-based 72. Sapienza's MoveIN pre-selection sheet asks for IELTS 5.5 and TOEFL iBT 80 for the same degree. An applicant who needs a visa goes through both, so the higher of each applies.
Is Duolingo accepted?
No. Neither the programme's call nor Sapienza's English language sheet lists it.
What does it cost?
Sapienza sets the yearly fee by the country where your income is declared. Pakistan is in Band A, which is 300 euro a year, paid as 90, 105 and 105 euro. Applying costs 30 euro for the MoveIN pre-selection, with no waiver available, and a further 10 euro for the eligibility check on Infostud.
Am I in time for the 2026-2027 intake?
Almost certainly not. The MoveIN pre-selection closed on 15 May 2026 for non-EU applicants who need a visa, and on 31 July 2026 for everyone else. Visa pre-enrolment on Universitaly closed on 30 June 2026. The eligibility check on Infostud runs to 15 September 2026, but only a candidate who already holds a pre-acceptance letter can use it. Dates for the next cycle are not published yet.
Is there an admission test?
No. The call says the assessment of personal knowledge is based on the mark on the degree you enter with. There is no written test and no interview in the call.
