Luiss describes the course as advanced interdisciplinary training to understand global dynamics and address the main political, economic, legal, and social challenges of the contemporary world. A second foreign language is compulsory alongside English.
Students choose one of three majors: Diplomacy, Security, or Euro-Mediterranean Studies. All three share the same first semester. It carries Comparative History of Political Systems (6 ECTS), Comparative Politics (6 ECTS), Comparative Public Law (6 ECTS), Research Methods for Social Sciences (6 ECTS) and Academic and Professional Communication Skills (8 ECTS).
The Diplomacy major then teaches Demography and the Politics of Global Populations, International Organizations and Global Economic Governance, Sociology of Global Politics and International Political Theory in the second semester. Its second year opens with History of International Relations. Each of those courses is 6 ECTS.
The Security major teaches Security and the Economy, International Human Rights, Sociology of Terrorism and Political Violence and International Security in the second semester. Its second year opens with Security Law and Constitutional Protection. Each of those courses is 6 ECTS.
The Euro-Mediterranean Studies major teaches The Political Economy of the Middle East and North Africa, Demography, Human Rights and Migration, Politics of the Middle East and North Africa and EU Neighborhood Policy in the second semester. Every major then adds three elective courses worth 18 ECTS in total, two certificates worth 6 ECTS each, the compulsory foreign language worth 6 ECTS, an internship worth 6 ECTS and a final thesis worth 16 ECTS. The study plan does not name the electives or the two certificates.
