It suits international students who finished 11 years of secondary school and need a further year before they can apply to an Italian bachelor's or single-cycle degree.
The Foundation Programme in Social Sciences is a preparatory course at Luiss Guido Carli. It is not a degree. The call gives its duration as one academic year, from October 2026 to April 2027. All teaching is in English. The course is worth 60 Foundation Credits.
The university's full description
The programme is open to international students who hold a diploma earned after at least 11 years of secondary school studies. The call describes it as being for students who need to acquire an additional year of schooling, or to fulfil other prerequisites, before enrolling on a Bachelor or a Single-Cycle Degree Program in Italy.
The study plan has ten courses. Introduction to Computational Thinking is 6 Foundation Credits. Introduction to Critical Thinking and Methodologies is 3. Introduction to Macro and Microeconomics is 6. Introduction to Private Law is 6. Introduction to Public Law is 6. Fundamentals of Management is 6. Fundamentals of Investing is 6. Introduction to Social and Political Analysis is 6. Language Empowerment and Academic Preparation (LEAP) is 6. Italian Language is 9. The credits add up to 60. Students who already hold at least B2 Italian are exonerated from the Italian course, after an internal assessment by the Luiss Foundation Team or on presentation of a language certificate.
The call describes the 2026/2027 course as blended. The first semester is delivered by online synchronous classes. The second semester is mainly online. In March and April 2027 students come to the Luiss campus in Rome for some classes and for soft skills training. Attendance is compulsory for at least 80 percent of classroom activities in each course, and only 20 percent absence is allowed for exam registration.
Students who complete the programme and pass every exam receive a certificate of successful completion. The call states the certificate can be considered for enrolling on the first cycle of Luiss Undergraduate Programs and Single-Cycle Degree Programs, but only after passing one of Luiss's own admission selection procedures for 2027/2028. The certificate is not an offer of a place. Foundation Credits cannot be recognised as CFUs, and the programme page states they cannot be converted into CFU or ECTS credits.
The fee is 7,500 euro for the year. It is paid in two instalments, 4,500 euro on enrolment and 3,000 euro by 15 January 2027. The call offers a 1,000 euro reduction on the first instalment for students who apply within 60 days of the call being published. Applications for 2026/2027 closed on 11 September 2026. Luiss has not yet published a call for 2027/2028.
